The Whidbey Island Beekeepers Association was founded by David Neel. David owns Island Apiaries, which he established in 2008. He first started keeping bees when he was 6 years old and has developed a keen interest in the current troubles that are plaguing bees. He is working to develop strains of bees that can withstand the pressures that varroa and nosema place on a colony. David believes that developing regional strains of bees that are more adapted to their environment is key to overcoming the hardships that today’s honeybees face.
